The votes are in and a band of trusted professionals have counted, recounted and verified the results. No, we’re not talking about Big Brother or even the outcome of the General Election – it’s much more important than that. We’ve come to the end of the English Wine awards that we’ve entered this year and are very proud to say that Lyme Bay Winery has had a monumentally successful season.

Since launching our English wines in 2015 we’ve racked up a whole host of accolades, but 2017 has seen our biggest haul so far. In this, only our third year of releasing our wines, we are delighted to have won a grand total of 33 awards for our still and sparkling English wines, including at the Pinot Noir Masters Competition, the Independent English Wine Awards, the International Wine Challenge, the Sommelier Wine Awards, the Decanter World Wine Awards, the International Wine & Spirits Competition, and the UKVA Wine Awards.

Still splendid

We are particularly proud of our Bacchus Block 2015, which took Gold at the Independent English Wine Awards 2017 and was named ‘Most Outstanding Bacchus’ at the UKVA Wine Awards 2017. Sparkling victory

Not to be outdone, our Classic Cuvée 2013 put in an outstanding showing on behalf of our stable of English sparkling wines, taking Gold at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2017. A blend from the noble Champagne varieties Pinot Noir (81%) and Chardonnay (19%), Lyme Bay Classic Cuvée is an elegant sparkling wine, showing a depth of citrus and stone fruits flavours, along with the more complex secondary aromas of cooked apples, breadcrumbs, honey and almond.

Success so far

Overall we’ve received 70 awards for our English still and sparkling wines since we opened the Cellar Door in 2015, making us one of the most awarded English wineries, which is a great achievement considering our range.

“We passionately believe that English wines deserve their place amongst the elite quality wines of the world, and we are proud that Lyme Bay is at the forefront of this movement,” says Liam Idzikowski, Lyme Bay Winery’s Head Winemaker.
