Somerset Cider Brandy, that's the spirit, delicious
The Somerset Cider Brandy Company were granted the first full cider distilling license by HM Customs, in England's recorded history, in 1989. Their Cider Brandy evokes all the magic and mystery of the West Country's proud cidermaking and apple growing traditions. In the Autumn, vintage cider apples are gathered, pressed and fermented in huge oak vats. After three months the cider is distilled and clear spirit known as Eau de Vie, or the 'water of life' is drawn off into barrels. In the barrels the spirit slowly gains colour from the oak whilst a small amount is lost through the wood- 'the angels share'. After mellowing and maturing for several years it becomes a deliciously smooth Cider Brandy.
What the papers said...
Kingston Black Apple Aperitif: A very popular blend of Cider Brandy and one of the finest and rarest of vintage cider apples. 'Absolutely delicious, focused, rich and deep with a long warming Calvados and oak finish.' (London Evening Standard)
Eau de Vie: A clear, fiery apple spirit. 'A superbly flavoured Eau de Vie with a heady perfume of old fashioned cider apples.' (The Guardian)
