One Star Gold Great Taste Awards 2010Two Star Gold Great Taste Awards 2010Lyme Bay has had another highly successful year at The Great Taste Awards 2010.  After a blind tasting by a range of distinguished chefs, restaurant critics, food writers and other industry experts our Sparkling Cider has won a coveted 2-star award, along with Ginger Wine for the second year running. Traditional Mead, Plum Wine, Whisky Ginger, Whisky Mead & Sloe Reserve Liqueur all received a One-Star Gold Award.

Jack Ratt Scrumpy Cider won the 3 star Gold Award at the Great Taste Awards 2009The Great Taste Awards from The Guild of Fine Food are the acknowledged benchmark for speciality food and drink. 4,873 products were entered this year, 80 winning the prestigious Triple Gold and 13 going on to win the higher accolade of the Regional Speciality Product Awards.

Nigel Howard, Managing Director said, "We are very, very proud to have won this award. It's a great accolade and reflects both the high quality of the ingredients used and the enthusiasm and dedication of the Lyme Bay team."

The Winery working year is hard work but interesting; punctuated by the seasonal availablity of the fruit and flowers and the temperamental nature of the weather (and equipment!). We all go Elderflower picking in May, cidermaking begins in the autumn and in between we have some lovely projects; this year we have all been nettle picking for wine which was featured in the renowned ‘World Stinging Nettle Championship’ in Marshwood, Dorset’.

We use the highest quality fruit and fruit juice available, sourced locally if possible. Our drinks are hand made, blended, (and tasted!) by a small team of individuals, who utilise both traditional and modern production techniques to create the best quality tipples we can.
